The mud flats exposed at low tide at the River Hayle provide fishing for mullet, bass and flatties. It is also possible to find mackerel, pollock and wrasse around these parts. The tides can be very strong so care has to be taken, but it is in these tidal flows that the bass like to hunt and they can be caught using live sand eel.
At Godrevy (Gwithian beach) there are rocks which fish out over clean to broken ground, and the nearer towards the lighthouse the more broken the ground becomes. The beach here is a very good surf beach which produces the usual suspects like Bass, Ray and Turbot. You can also catch Plaice on the Mussel beds. Spinning a lure or dead bait will produce Pollock, Garfish and Mackerel.
Tackle can be bought at Angove Sports in Copperhouse end of Hayle and also at the Tackle Shop in Hayle Market down the Foundry End of town- they have regular deliveries of live ragworm and other baits in the market and frozen baits can be bought in both venues.
The area also has several lakes with good stocks of tench, carp, roach and trout. Stithians Reservoir covers 274 acres and is great for brown and rainbow trout.
